de Young Museum & Hagiwara Japanese Tea Garden Visit 04-22-06

Today (or should I say yesterday) was a fun day trip to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. It was my first trip to the facility since before the Asian Art Museum moved out. I saw the Zen: Painting & Calligraphy, 17th–20th Centuries show there in summer 2001.

The new facility tripped me out from the very beginning.

I turned into Golden Gate park on 10th Avenue from Fulton, directly into a parking garage under the de Young Museum. Little did I know, that was only the beginning of the renovations going on in the area. The things that looked the same were the Japanese Tea Garden and the middle ampitheatre section where sometimes live music is played. Everything else looked re-done.

Protestors Bite Back

After years of pictures of police and military in full gear going against protestors and demonstrators in street clothes (or even a pink top and white sandals like the girl below),

it tickles my funny bone to see these pictures of a protester fighting back the only way he could.

Demonstrator Bites Police Before
Soldier is shocked, but not scared yet. The protestor is deviously thinking of what to do next.

Palestinian protestor bites the finger of an Israeli soldier during a protest against the construction of Israel's Apartheid Wall in the West Bank village of Beit Sira March 24, 2006.

Demonstrator Bites Police Later
Now soldier is clearly freaking out and gets the biter's friends to try to help him out. Protestor's jaws are getting tired, but he's determined to hang on.

A demonstrator bites the finger of an Israeli riot policeman during a protest against the construction of Israel's separation barrier in the West Bank village of Beit Sira, near Ramallah.

Thanks, AP Photo/MaanImages, Mushir Abdelrahman, for both pictures.
